And so much in between that and the ending:

I have stopped caring about belonging. Maybe because I already belong.

There were so many other touching and insightful moments, but I will end with the one you basically chose to end with.

We tend to think, this is my goal in life, my biggest need, my Eldorado. And then we often realize (or we don't, but the fact is still there) that things change, we change. Maybe we even live more lives in one lifetime.

So true! Thanks for your thoughts, Monika. Things used to be much more of a “once in a lifetime” commitment: career, employer, family, personal goals. That has changed profoundly in the modern age.

Been through a lot of tunnels, some lit, some not. Belonging has never been something I've really managed to capture, only to myself. Kind of a loner, but love hanging out with people when we have a certain resonance. Very nice essay/article/open door of yours. Enjoyed it a lot. Thanks and all the best!

Thank you, Victor! My very personal belief is that belonging is a need until it isn’t anymore; that it mostly reflects a deeper need to work on ourselves. But I might be wrong, because of my own, maybe special, experience with belonging.
